Yeah, the view count is counted each time the page loads, and there's always lots of crawling robots on the internet.  There's probably a bunch of different algorithms to try to work around the problem, but I haven't looked into it that much yet.  It would be really easy if we only allowed registered users to view pages, but there's so much good information on the forums, that we wanted to keep it public.

I'm not sure where everyone went, but I know a lot of people use websites like Facebook almost exclusively.  I bet there are a lot of other small websites that have similar problems.  Humans seem to have a tendency to want to consolidate all their information.  I think I should have more free time to work on the website soon, so maybe if I start working on fixing some of the feature requests and bugs people might start using it again.

Oh yeah, another thing that really sucked for smaller independent websites was when Google killed Google Reader.  I know a lot of people who mainly got all their small website and blog updates from RSS or Atom feeds in Reader.  I know there are other options for that now, but it's not as easy compared to being integrated into a Google account most people already had.

F-in Facebook ! I hate it !
I feel like I can't take a crap without having to post something about it on Fbook or Twatter.

I'd like to keep some things about my life semi private.

So how many people are actually ACTIVE on this site now ( vs. just having member profile )

It's definitely slowed down a lot, we haven't been as vigilant about creating events in a while, and with so many things happening on FB for sure. We still keep the VRA FB page pretty active, though and share most news there.

So where are the people discussing things on the VRA FBook ?
I just see a bunch of pictures of food on the VRA Fbook page.
It is nice actually talking* to people in full paragraphs.
FBook seems so impersonal.

So where are all the vegans at in Austin ?

Everyone is using a Facebook group now instead. There are a few but Austin, TX Vegans send the biggest and most active to me so I follow that one. It's more active than this site ever was. Facebook is convenient that way.

I find myself coming here for the places category occasionally. Nobody else seems to have as convenient a list. I like the way it's divided and checking how many all vegan places exist, but it's not kept as up to date anymore. Fat Cats isn't vegan and Golden Spike closed.

Well that bites.

The post Punk kitchen forums are very active, but not Austin specific. If you're referring to not seeing much on the Facebook group it's probably because you're not a member of it yet. It has daily activity.
