(Oh god. Forgive the craptastic title. I'm only half awake. It's supposed to say "Snack Bar has vegan items on their menu!"

So Chris and I stumbled across this while searching for wedding caterers.
Have you seen the menu for the newly opened Snack Bar on S Congress?
They have soooo much vegan stuff.

They serve brunch all day and you can get tofu scramble,  vegan waffles,  a tofu Benedict w/ vegan holandaise plate, vegan parfaits with soy yogurt and more. You can also sub scramble for any  egg in their plates.

For lunch they have seitan, tempeh & tofu. They've goot a bunch of vegan soups, sandwiches and a seitan bbq sandwich.

You know what? Just take a looksie for yourself. They also serve mimosas & such so I'm sure we'll be there for brunch asap.

Here's the menu:

(Everything w/ a heart is or can be made vegan.)

Yay!

Whhhhaaaattttt!!!!!! That's amazing! Mark and I just moved FROM the SoCo area, so it it's kind of sad that we won't be a stone's throw from this place. Nevertheless, I can't wait to try it! Vegan eggs benedict is one of my faves! Thanks for posting!

I've been so excited about Snack Bar for sooooooo long! Two of my friends were creating the menu, and they started working there about a year ago, but I guess they've had permit problems or something? They've had two or three soft openings already, but I hadn't heard about them actually opening yet. Are you sure they're officially open now?

Hey guys!

I've been twice. Once, when they first opened, I went with my guy. It's a really adorable space and the patio is awesome! We ordered the tofu benedict and a veggie burger. Both were kinda meh. The tofu on the benedict was delicious, but the hollandaise was gross and the tomato was sour. The burger sounded amazing...a homemade black bean patty stuffed with avocado in the middle! But it was dry and kind of bland. I'm going to attribute all that to first week issues, because we went back yesterday for brunch and OMG.

Tofu scramble, waffles, tempeh bacon, and the biscuits and gravy were all incredibly delicious. Even the fruit bowl was amazing. It's also super reasonably priced. I don't think anything on the menu is more than $8. Anyway, I would love to go back any time.

PS- Pomegranate lime mimosa = delicious

We went today at 3 with a friend of ours.

I ordered the biscuits and gravy, a pomegranate lime momosa & potato hash.
(Our friend got the same thing).
Chris got the tofu scramble, hash cake and toast (with vegan butter).

First off, the service was awesome. We had like 3 waitresses! No complaints there. They gave our dog some water and snacks, too.

The biscuits and gravy are so bad. The gravy is gross. Someone mentioned all it neaded was some seasoning. I kept trying to fix it but I couldn't save it. It's not passable biscuits & gravy. Not in Texas or anywhere. The potato cake was good, a bit greasy but flavorful. The mimosa was yummy. (Our friend agreed about the biscuits and gravy.)

Chris didn't like his scramble at all. It was like someone's first try at tofu and we think the cook didn't taste it. No nutritional yeast and tasted like unflavored tofu. He was thankful for the toast and vegan butter. He liked the hash cake okay though.

The prices & portions are weird. My huge plate of biscuits and gravy cost me 3 bucks (for 2 biscuits). Chris's plate with a small portion of scramble, and a tiny piece of toast was like 7 bucks. The tiny drinks were like 6 bucks each.

I can tell you guys that our dog enjoyed her dog treats much more than we enjoyed our breakfast. And we were all still hungry after leaving! Everything tasted bad. I truly believe that whoever is making the vegan food is not tasting it. We are probably not going to go there again.

I was expecting bad service and good food based on the reviews, but nope.

I went on Sunday. I had the freedom benny, and I really liked it. I also had a side of seitan sausage which could have benefited from some more spice. And I tried the biscuits and gravy. I liked the biscuit itself more than the gravy which was a bit watery and not spiced enough. The food wasn't perfect, but I would say I really enjoyed it overall. The service was good - even with the few expected hiccups. I love the decor and atmosphere. I really want this place to successful, because it's a pretty unique offering for Austin. After I try it a few more times I might make a suggestion to them about the gravy and the seitan sausage - for improvement. Overall, it was a really good experience.

Stephen, Brian and I went tonight and ate from their "Night Snacks" menu, which is all they had available. We will try again to go to Brunch, but the food was awful tonight. The restaurant was absolutely bare, given that they just opened up their night time hours, and the menu was very small.

We had the Spring Rolls, Tres Sopes, Coconut Curry and Edamole.

Spring rolls were too heavy on vermicelli and dry otherwise, the sopes were greasy and absolutely flavorless, Coconut curry had no hint of coconut OR curry, and the edamole was pretty nice, but not worth the money.

Absolutely not worth the trip.

Daniela, a fair warning. They don't actually have a dinner menu. Everything is tapas. Just FYI. Still deserves a review, though.
