Hi my name is Bekah my boyfriend Ian (diogenes) and I along with our 3 stinky kitties happy are moving to Austin in April.  We are sooooooo looking forward to meeting new people and coming to the next potluck!!  Anyone who can give us advice on restaurants or activities we can go to please let us know.  We are both artists and we looooove the outdoors! We live in Houston now and there is Nooo vegan community to speak of, so we are super stoked about meeting everyone and getting involved!!  I hope we get to know a lot of you soon!!

yeah, Houston has almost no vegan community, other than the meetup.com one, but some of the best vegan food in Texas, I think.  ya just gotta know where to look, like Aladdin's and Mo Mong, as well as Sunfired and the late great Raw Truth (oh how I miss them).  can't forget Field of Greens, either.

but just like Houston, I'm now addicted to the food here in Austin.  how was I living before the El Tipico at Bouldin?  or Anna's Tofu Tacos at El Sol y La Luna?  I dunno but Austin has some serious grub.  One reason Austin trumps Houston is quite a bit of Mexican restaurants here have vegan chorizo.  and of course the fact that while I was in Houston I had no vegan friends, now I have, I think, one friend who eats meat.  being vegan feels all normal and shit here. happy

welcome!  I think it was your boyfriend who added me on myspace?  and you are both artists?  would either of you be of the musical variety?  if so, get here so I can give you guys some free studio time!!!

you know i never thought of that, but i guess austin is the city of tofu scramble!  you really can get a good vegan brunch at many restaurants in austin. i can think of 5 places right off the top of my head.  i take that forgranted.

looking forward to meeting you guys!

yeah.. austin is incredibly veg friendly.. I have NEVER been able to go out for breakfast as a vegan.. especially for something like tofu scramble or vegan pancakes and waffles  :-P  There are soooo many places to eat we have found so far that we love!  don't take austin for granted we are all very lucky..:-)

Ya I mean we can never do all that here, there is literally 3 good places we can go and eat that are veg in houston, everything else closed!!  I mean I get this "what the hell" look when I tell people I don't eat meat.  It's like you live in Texas your obligated to eat cow or something! HAHA!  I mean I have friends who eat meat but it'd be nice to be able to eat a vegan lunch without getting looked at funny. happy I'm totally looking forward to meeting everyone and getting into some of the fun activities.  We just rented an apartment at the Riata in NW Austin which is super schweet.  So we are set to go and the count down is on!!

That's totally a great idea!! The pool is great and they have a fire pit and a hot tub!!  Plus there is a nice club room with a huge banquet table for pot lucks!!  That'd be schweet!!

cool!!! Me and my boyfriend are moving to Austin too!  This august.  We are both vegans (and he is a musician) so Austin seemed like the perfect city!  I'm so excited to have vegan friends!!! I swear they are so hard to find, but hopefully not in Austin.
