Today during the running meet up we talked about having a vegan fitness group where we have group runs, workouts, juice bar meet ups and potlucks, even group discounts for races. Would there be interest in something like this? What kind of meet-ups would y'all want? I might be able to set up and organize it because I have too much time on my hands these days and am ready to throw myself into things. Never done something like this so it will be a learning experience though!

Great idea!  I am interested!  I'd like to start training for a running race - 5k, 10k, whatever people want to do.  I'm also up for other types of workouts too.  Maybe some bike rides or "boot camps" or the likes.

I think a meet up at DailyJuice/Juiceland/Juicespot would be a great way to kick things off.  Then we could discuss/vote on what kinds of things the group wanted to do.

I would be happy to coordinate strength workout related stuff like:
-Group workout at Beyond Fit (vegan gym up north)
-Group workout at Bonebreaker Barbell (vegan gym south in Kyle)
-Group workout at Town Lake or UT chin-up bars

I'd be interested.  I love working out and have been meaning to get out and meet some of the vegans around town.
Also, totally didn't know there were vegan gyms.  Awesome.

I think the DailyJuice/Juiceland/Juicespot meet up is a great idea. Maybe we could have a group run or workout before too. We could go to Town Lake and then go to the Deep Eddy Juiceland/Downtown Daily Juice or go to Walnut Creek and then Juicespot. Anyone have suggestions for a date for this?

Maybe we could have a leader for each type of sport who coordinates those kind of events, like Ben for strength workouts, me for group runs and track workouts at Clark Field, someone else for biking, etc.

Hi all! I train and coach at Beyond FIT, a plant-based training center in North Austin. We are located off of 183/Lamar and offer group strength and conditioning classes.

Every weekend we host free community workouts and classes. This SUNDAY @ 10 am we are hosting a free boot camp with an awesome DJ. Come on over - it will be tons of fun!

Here's a video from the last Sunday @ Bonebreaker Barbell

I suggest y'all try to make it out to the Beyond Fit thing on Sunday.  They are always lots of fun.  The community vibe is really nice, a lot of gyms don't have that.

The boot camp sounds awesome! What is it like?

Anyone want to do a Run For Boston group run on Saturday morning? We could meet at the Juiceland near Deep Eddy. Wear blue or yellow or a marathon shirt if you have one.

Would love to do it again, and I really like the aspect of incorporating exercise and healthy vegan eating.  happy

I'm up for rides and maybe working up to running (my knees have a strong disagreement with me on that point).  I'd be interested in the boot camp, but having done one in the past, I'm fully aware that I'm one torso twist away from my back telling me to go f*** myself.

I would also love going to sweaty yoga class at Black Swan and then maybe dinner at Beets, Counter Culture, or Whole Foods afterwards...

FREE community boot camp this Sunday is challenging and fast paced. Combining strength and conditioning exercises, it will help build and tone your muscles, increase strength, burn fat and improve your cardiovascular endurance.

At Beyond FIT, we have a really fun, hard working and supportive community. People of all ages and fitness levels. This Sunday, we will have a DJ to keep the beats going and help keep the energy high.

Follow us on twitter/instagram @BeyondFitAustin and be sure to like our Facebook page!

If you go to beyondfitaustin.com, there is a video on the home page that will give you a really good look at the types of workouts. If you have any other questions or want to check out another class, feel free to email me at tkofitatx@gmail.com

I'm going to make a facebook and meetup page for the group. What do y'all think of the name "Austin Fit and Plant Strong?" If anyone has a better name let me know!

Alright here is the facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Austin-Fit-and-Plant-Strong/592025867482912

Anyone have an experience with meetup.com? Is it free to make a group there? I looked into it and it looks like it might be $12 a month. For now join the facebook group!

VRA spun off from meetup.com years ago. We stopped using their site when they started charging us.

Hey Rebecca, sorry for being late to this... I just thought I'd let you know you might want to be careful about using the term "Plant Strong" in the name of your group. That term is trademarked by the Engine 2 Diet organization, and I believe they have protested the use of the term by groups unaffiliated with them. Maybe they won't care about a small, local group just doing their own thing, but I thought you'd want to know.

As for Meetup, yes it starts at $12 a month and goes up from there if you  don't pay six months at a time. So going the Facebook route would certainly have been the better option.
