The 2013 World Wide Vegan Bake Sale will be April 20-28. I know it's early to start planning anything, but thought we could get some ideas going.

WHERE? Monkey Wrench again?
WHO? Just VRA or want to get the other groups in on it again?
WHEN? Sat. 4/20, Sun. 4/21, Sat. 4/27, Sun. 4/28?
WHO WILL WE DONATE TO? Sunny Day Farms, SARA Animal Sanctuary, Austin Pets Alive? Another group?

Discuss! happy

There aren't any events on the collective calendar for any of those dates so far, so they all look good to me. I think MWB was a great location for it, so I guess we should check with their calendar to make sure it's clear on those dates as well.

Just a thought, but would it make sense to not have "official" sponsors this year? Everyone is going to pull together to make it happen, so do we have to call out each individual group/business that is contributing? The poster was really busy last year, and I think none of us need credit, so in the spirit of selflessness, shall we just call it the Austin WWVBS and leave it at that? I hope that all the vegan/veg friendly businesses will feel comfortable helping us that way, and everyone will be more likely to promote it on their FB pages, etc. The more donations the merrier!

I'm still a huge fan of Sunny Day. They are one of the less trumpeted groups, and I know the money is a big thing for them, so I say we should stick with them, but I'd be happy to be outvoted if people feel strongly otherwise.

So happy that you're taking this on again this year Brittany! Last year's was awesome happy

4/20 is the reggae festival and 4/27 is Eeyore's Birthday, so that leaves us with Sunday 4/21 or Sunday 4/28. Cassandra confirmed today that Monkey Wrench is open on both days. Preferences?

The 21st and the 28th both look good to me.

Would we consider making a Facebook Page for the Austin WWVBS? Maybe once we get a poster/logo designed for it, we could put a page up and then create an event from that page. Then all the different groups could just share the event/page, and we could give a shout out to any businesses that donate stuff. It would also be helpful to maintain a fan base for next years bakesale.

I figure we might as well just pick one of the days to get things rolling! What do you all think about the 21st?

And yes, to the Facebook page idea!

Is there going to be a spring Gathering of the Tribes?  Might want to check and make sure they aren't on the same weekend to spare the bakers/cooks.

I did find that Gathering of the Tribes is currently scheduled for 4/20.  Poses an interesting conundrum...make it a busy weekend for the bakers/cooks with both events or miss the easy opportunity for sales to the people coming down from Reggie Fest (mmm, brownies, man).

4/21 is Counter Culture's one year anniversary.  We'll be having a party.

4/28 it is then happy

At the last bake sale, we mentioned that the length of time was a bit long (6 hours). What do you think if we shorten it? Maybe noon to 4? Or 11 to 3?

I went ahead and asked Cassandra to book Monkey Wrench for us to use from 12 to 4 (with set up starting at 11:30 and clean up lasting till 4:30). Reservations are set!

A few of us were talking about adding a second bake sale on the same day at either Counter Culture or Bouldin, if possible. What do y'all think? It seems like it could bring in more people and more $. Although, perhaps it will be more fun to keep us all together. Any preferences?

The more bake sales the merrier, I say, as I'm partial to anything that raises the most money for Sunny Day Farms. If a second bake sale would be in conjunction with, and not in competition with the MWB bake sale, then that would be great. It could be a logistical challenge to organize two bake sales, though.

It seems like forever since I've gone to a bake sale. I'm so excited. Who else is baking and what are you making?

I'm doing chocolate-covered marshmallow pops and something else with marshmallows. Maybe these Biscoff/Speculoos Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars: http://www.loveveggiesandyoga.com/2012/12/biscoff-marshmallow-chocolate-bars.html.
