So I know we have had this thread before but there are so many new places that maybe I am not aware of. People are already asking me where to get barbecue for SXSW.

Conscious Cravings, has that bbq seitan wrap.

Counter Culture had the barbecue jackfruit and maybe still will at the new restaurant.

Arlo's has a BBQ burger.

Is that it? And if that is it don't you think it's weird that Portland has 2 vegan barbecue trailers and we have none?

Mr. Natural also has BBQ seitan! I think you could count the Veggie Royale maybe at Bouldin, don't you think?

I didn't know Mr. Naturals had BBQ. I'm going to have to try it stat. Have any of you had the BBQ tofu at Mothers? Is it worth mentioning? I haven't been to pleased with stuff I've gotten from there in the past.

And Moby just grilled corn, there is plenty of places to get that! Maybe I should mention them...

I know a couple of people who really enjoy the Mother's barbecue tofu. If their taste buds are any measure it bears mentioning.

Yes, it's the plate specifically that I know some people like a lot.

I've had the barbecue tofu plate at Mother's. It's OK. Not great, not terrible. But, to be honest, I haven't ever had barbecue tofu that I thought was great.

I love the barbecue tofu plate at Mother's.  It doesn't have much in the way of veggies, so I always get it with a salad. But then, I always get the Mother's salad with cashew tamari anyway....mmm....wait, what were we talking about?  Favorite salad dressings?

You vegans, trying to turn a BBQ thread into a salad tread.

Thanks for the opinions, I'll add mothers to my post.

We should target some BBQ place to do barbecued soy curls, that's the best and easiest plus now they're available. I think I'll start harassing some places!

Molly- I love the Vcon BBQ tofu, you bake it in the oven and it gets really firm.

BBQ tofu plate was the first thing I tried at Mother's a few years ago. At the time it was very bland, literally a slab of tofu warmed then smothered in bbq sauce. I haven't had the desire to try it again. Like Molly, I also don't find bbq tofu appetizing, it's too mushy.
BBQ soy curls, however, sound amazing, and they're really simple! I made some the other night and we gorged ourselves.
A chopped beef style bbq seitan is also tasty.

I worked my ass off at the Moby vegan bbq at Iggi's Texatarian, and I'd just like to say, that man had no hand whatsoever in grilling any corn happy

I continue to be unimpressed with Mother's, and I wish I wasn't.  I had their BBQ sandwich once and thought it was terrible.  The peanut butter flavor overwhelmed any BBQ-y flavor completely.

I love the veggie BBQ at Mr. Natural.  It's on the buffet on Thursdays or can be ordered off the menu.  It's great with their vegan potato salad.

What about the veggie BBQ sandwich at Jo's?  It's really good, and Jo's has a great Austin vibe.  (Note:  I'm not sure if the bun is vegan.)

I remember asking once if the BBQ at Jo's was vegan and being told no. I'm not sure if I remember why it was though, at the moment. Either the sauce or bread?

I think the issue was honey in the sauce.
