2 for 1 Dimassi's Buffet! If you haven't been here, they've got great vegan options, a large part of the buffet is vegan, and they even have vegan Baklava (though has refined sugar)

You're sure it's vegan? I thought Baklava was typically made using honey?

They at least used to show the full ingredients next to it, so yes.

Oh do they? Wow, I'm totally unobservant. Haha. I'll check it out next time I'm there.

This place is awesome!!
That groupon was well worth it. Took my family and we all loved it. Lots of choices for us to eat. Lots of veggies and falafel's and dolmas to go crazy with! Unfortunately no vegan baklava, but still worth going to ust a bit of a drive from way down south Austin.

Also for us vegans it is better for you to go during lunch hours (before 4pm). the price is 9.99 per person and jumps to 12.99 after that. the only difference on the buffett is more meat dishes that we do not eat anyway.

Oh and for those with kids Monday and Tuesday are kids eat free days to save you a little more money. My kiddos loved it!

what made the baklava not vegan for you? The only thing when I saw the ingredients was refined sugar

Oh we talked to the manager/owner guy there, he told us it was made with LOTS of butter.

My wife and I have been curious about the rice with pasta. It's a yellowish color an could be cooked with butter or chicken broth or bouillon, not sure on that one. but the rice with lentils  is really good!

Oh yeah and they still show the ingredients above all the food also for the most part. Just question if they were cooked with butter or olive oil but still really cool to eat at!

awwww are you serious!? they used to list the ingredients on that and was oil, but that was before the ownership changed back I guess. argh. we'll have to hassle them about that. and yeah the new rice is super yellow, I was a bit unsure about that, it was never yellow before.

Just saw another deal for these guys.  Has anyone been lately?  Are there still decent vegan options?  Just wondering if it is worth buying....

Yeah I still love it there. They're trying to label vegan options with a "V" also, which is cool(though they were a bit off last time I checked, but they knew they needed to fix them)

Cool, thanks! I just bought the max of three vouchers because $12 for two people is a damn good deal.  Here's the deal if anyone wants to buy off my link:

Ross, how did you know that they were off?  Did they have a V on something that had animal products listed in the ingredients?

Awesome.

Yeah they had V symbols on items that were labeled as yogurt, feta, etc. Craig said it was the same thing in Houston, so I think they just need some encouragement and clarification. I told them I appreciated them taking the initiative to label vegan though and explained the definition. Also, Madras has started labeling some things on their buffet with "vegan" happy

Thanks for the clarification on that.  I will definitely check in with them and continue to encourage them on that front.  It's awesome to see places taking us more seriously these days, and I have no problem taking a few minutes to let them know that it is worthwhile for them to continue to do so.  Maybe we should do a restaurant meetup there some time to give you North folks some love.....

Glad to hear about Madras too!  Is the Gobi Manchurian vegan?!!  They used to say it was, and then we heard some conflicting info from one guy.  I know that you were a fan too, so I figured you'd know.

np, I'd be down for another meetup there to show them some love.

on the gobi front- word from the current manager is that there's no dairy or egg in the manchurian, and he's called out the chef a couple times when he wasn't sure about anything. I don't think I actually got chef confirmation for that specifically, but they seem to be a lot better with the current manager. he's super friendly and always asks if i want other stuff like chapati instead of the naan(which has milk), or if there's a curry that's not vegan he'll bring me a vegan one.
