Fancy meal at La Condesa

So Elle and I went to La Condesa on 2nd last night for our anniversary thanks to the recommendation from Chris and Crystal from Food for Lovers.

We got the vegan platters, and oh jeebus was it awesome. The price was $18, so definitely a little steep, but well worth it for a special occasion. I know a lot of folks have asked on here for recommendations on somewhere to go for a vegan date, and this is a great little spot.

We gave them warning ahead of time, so you might do the same. The platter isn't listed on the menu, so just mention it to the waiter when you go that you're vegan and they can make the appropriate recommendations.

The acelgas taquitos are also a vegan appetizer you can get made with swiss chard and some other stuff(I've heard these are great too)

Menu:
Quinoa cakes with baked beets, radish, sprouts, and nummy sauce

Huitlacoche-black bean cake in the middle

Sauteed tofu with mole and grilled green beans

For dessert we had a strawberry-mango sorbet.

Awesome, I'll have to hit this up.

When you say "We gave them warning ahead of time" do you mean you called ahead?

Yeah we called them the day before and left a message that a couple of vegans were coming the next day. We made a reservation on OpenTable too and noted we were vegan. Would probably help let them know there's demand if we were all calling ahead too. happy

I think the anniversary of you and I becoming friends is next week Ross!  I'll dress all fancy and let you take me there.

What's on top of the guac? Is that a fig jelly or something? It looks tasty, whatever it is!

Clay Pit is always a nice place to go, especially if you sit downstairs.

Clay Pit was definitely our default before we found La Condesa, it's pretty nice and definitely affordable. Dishes are like 9-10 bucks, can't beat that! And tasty, mmmmm samosas...

Copa bar and grill has a really good spinach mole enchilada plate with rice and beans, and the spicy manguito is awesome.
Sagra just got a vegetarian menu, a gluten free menu and a vegan menu, it is delicious.
Shoreline Grill has a separate vegetarian menu that can be veganized.
Garrido's has good food, a nice patio and knowledgeable servers.
Enoteca, Vespaio, Boticelli's, the Driskill, Jeffery's, 1886 cafe and bakery, and Parkside are all nice places with delicious vegan options.
There are some nice looking Greek restaurants in town as well that would inherently be vegan friendly but I have not tried yet.
I go out a lot and am not afraid to force a steak house to whip up something vegan so if anyone needs suggestions let me know happy  Chances are I've already asked the 20 questions.

Another one to add is Zanduga Mexican Bistro, I haven't been there but it sounds/looks fancy.  They have a vegetable mixiote with fancy veggies and mojo de ajo.  Also, they have 50 cent guava agave margaritas tomorrow (cinco de mayo) just sayin.

i went to La Condesa the other nite and had one of the best vegan meals i've ever had. i didn't call ahead b/c i wasn't planning on going, but the chef was still able to make me an incredible meal. i also had one of the tequila flights, which was pretty incredible too.  happy

Badass! Did they make you similar stuff or something different? I can't wait to go eat there again...
