Okay guys, our options have now doubled!

Elizabeth Street Cafe (where bouldin used to be) Has vegan pho, and it is goooooood!

The down side of Elizabeth's is its pretty trendy right now, so it can take a while to get a table, and it's super loud inside...like REALLY loud when they are busy. Its also a little pricier... $11 for a bowl.

We were just told by our server at Sunflower on183 that the "vegetarian" pho has beef broth.  Ugh.

Hey Peter, thanks for the reply!  I went to Pho Thai Son's website and it looks like they have a few locations. The Guadalupe one is way more convenient for me than the Anderson Lane one, but do you think they all have the same menu?  Or would you even know anything about that? Anyone?

AvocadoCupcake - I'm pretty sure they all have the same menu, I know the one down south is the same.

You can get a boxed pho now at the co-op! Just add all the toppings. I bought it but I haven't tried it yet, I have high hopes.

I can't wait to go to Elizabeth St. I wish it wasn't so dang pricey.

I've had the boxed stuff, and liked it OK. I haven't had much pho in my life, and don't like star anise, so I'm not a good opinion for authenticity.

Cheap, vegan pho with veggie broth and tofu. Huge bowl of pho. Best pho I've had in town.

And recently tried Elizabeth St. Cafe in South Austin (where the old Bouldin used to be). Tasty, expensive vegan pho: http://elizabethstreetcafe.com/

Lazy Smurf wrote about it on her blog (with pictures!): http://lazysmurf.wordpress.com/2012/01/26/elizabeth-st-cafe-a-vietnamese-french-cafe-in-south-austin/

Pho Dan's was legit. I'm still wishing for a seitan version.

I think I saw it in on Anderson between Mopac & Burnett next to that Walmart.

I didn't care that much for Pho Dan's. The broth was simply not flavorful enough. They have great add-ins. Some star anise would probably help it a lot.

PHO is back this week at Counter Culture!

Vegan Pho - our take on the popular Vietnamese dish consisting of broth, noodles made from rice, a few herbs, and meat. We will be using seitan instead of meat.  Just ask for no seitan to make it gluten-free. We also love to add additional veggies into everything so look out for some local greens in your soup!
Pumpkin Curry Bowl- House made pumpkin curry sauce poured over roasted sweet potatoes and steamed broccoli atop a bed of quinoa and topped off with toasted garbanzo beans. Gluten Free
Banana Cream Pie- Made from fresh bananas and coconut with a chocolate coconut crust.  Date sweetened. Gluten and Soy Free
Pumpkin Chocolate Bread Pudding- As delicious as it sounds.

Do you have to make any special requests to get vegan pho at Pho Dan?

Carrie, when my fiance and I went to Pho Danh, the vegan pho wasn't on the menu, but we just asked for vegetable pho with vegetable broth, and they brought it out for us.  Delicious!

We went to Pho Dan last night, and the veggie pho is in the sides area of the menu (Tofu Noodle Soup), there's also one with just vegetables. We added broccoli and carrots.

Honestly, I had a pretty similar experience flavor-wise to when I went to Pho Thaison, it was pretty good, but not spectacular. I've never had Pho before these two places, so I don't have much of a reference point to what it's supposed to be like. I was wishing for some more flavor or salt or something. Was still a relatively clean, non-greasy meal, but not amazing for my tastes.
