Hi!

My name is Diana, I'm very new to the forum, and relatively new to veganism (I made the switch back in October after having been lacto-ovo Veg for just over 7 years).

After looking around, I think what you're doing is fantastic, focusing on making a positive impression of veganism, and establishing a strong network in the community!  I look forward to becoming involved with the forums, and am hoping to join in on some of the activities, which sound like they've been a lot of fun.

Are there ever events which take place in the north Austin/Round Rock area?

Welcome Diana, and congrats on making the switch.

Our events happen all over town.  For potlucks, it's usually whoever has the time to host as well as enough space.  A bunch of us do live up north, but again, we're all over.

Our next event (as scheduled thus far), the whole foods potluck displayed in the upper right corner of the screen, will be at a member's house in Northeast Austin.  You're welcome to check it out!

Thanks, Peter!

It's certainly been a huge change (I went from being the only vegetarian among my family/friends to the only vegan), but everyone has been really supportive.

I mainly switched over because it's a hands-down healthier lifestyle.  As someone with epilepsy, anything I can do to manage the seizures, I'm all for it.  I look forward to meeting other vegans (aka, people who aren't constantly asking "hey, can you eat that??" happy )

I also wanted to make the note, that I host a monthly book clubin north Austin.  It's not geared around veganism, but it is a really good time.  This past months book was The Art of Racing in the Rain, by Garth Stein.

If you think this might be something you're interested in, let me know.  I'd be happy to open the group up to more like-minded people!

Hooray for north Austin vegans!  I live up north in the Wells Branch area.  It sometimes saddens me to be so far away from my beloved Iggi's Texatarian, but maybe it's a good thing that I'm not shoveling chili dogs into my pie hole every night.

Speaking of chili, the vegetarian chili cookoff was right up north in Old Settler's park, and it was a lot of fun.

I go bowling with a couple of vegans on Sunday night at Highland Lanes sometimes.

I tried to do a book club a while back, but it never really took, for various reasons. It was also too vegan. I'd be interested to know more about your club.

Hey! I'm in North Austin too happy I'm new to the forums and a fresh vegan as well. I grew up here in Austin, but moved to Los Angeles, CA for 2 years for work and just moved back. I made a trip to tour Animal Acres out there a couple months ago with my vegan friend and lingere designer (www.Purrfectpineapples.com reeeeally amazing cruelty free lingere) and it changed my life. I had always been "healthy" and fond of vegan/raw/vegetarian food but had never committed to fully going vegan untill that day. I'm obviously still learning, but loving every moment of it. Hope to meet some of you along the way!
