hmmm I gues we don't have it auto-detecting https addresses (as most URLs are usually just http)

Jacob- can you add in support for that?

I filled out the spreadsheet. Thanks everyone for doing this, and for including me. I REALLY want to be a part of this. But there's no way I can join a meeting before the 7th. Even the evening of the 7th won't work for me, because after you've cooked chili all day and then cleaned up and packed everything back into the car, all you can do is go home and crash (into bed, not the house).

But as long as we can do the meeting on or after the 8th, I should be able to do it. I specified dates when I can't, but if necessary I might be able to move stuff around. But I'm really hoping I can bring something big to the table to help get us off the ground. (Ssssh, shhhh...)

Hey guys!

Yesterday I had a great conversation with a vendor who has been attending/selling at VegFests all over the nation for the past 8 years!

She was super helpful and gave me lots of tips... including things like best months to hold the event, which other VegFests we don't want to compete with for the same date, focus areas for a group doing their first VegFest,  what makes certain VegFests successful & what's just "noise", what it's like from the vendor perspective, etc.

She's also super excited to participate at our VegFest when we get it all worked out.   I'll go into more detail when we have our planning meeting.

Anyone still wanting to participate in the planning, please sign-up on the google doc:

https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AoZEiA4X36UmdF8yd2RtRTJSTUVqVjhQUS1WM0ZNUVE&hl=en&authkey=CNnLl-YC

I'm also working on the first set of collaborative planning docs, and plan to share them by Sunday directly with those who have signed-up on the google doc.

When I was looking into this (pre-knocked up) I liked the Power Plant... you can use the outside and inside area, and about 6 months ago they charge around $500 for an evening and go from there.

Was there a decision made on when we will be meeting?  Are we waiting until after the holidays?  I'm not sure about everyone else, but things are about to start getting a little crazy for my schedule, so I want to make sure I keep a spot free for this.

So the earliest date that everyone who signed up said they were available is:

Sun 12/5
3pm

For location... I'm happy to have the meeting at my house.  I live in Round Rock/Pflugerville area (TX-45 & Heatherwilde).  Does that work? Or is it too far?

Angie, thanks for offering your house. If everyone else wants to go there, then I'm fine with that, but it'd be nice if we could pick a location a little more central. I live way down in south south Austin, and I don't mind driving to north Austin, but Pflugerville is quite a distance for me.

By the way, I looked at two of the big Austin events going on in September/October of next year, and ACL will be moving back to mid-September, the 16th through 18th. And the Longhorns will not be playing in Austin for a month from mid-September to mid-October. They have an away game the weekend of ACL, then a bye week, then an away game on the 1st of October, then the Oklahoma game in Dallas the weekend after that.

If we were to pursue the first weekend of October as I suggested earlier in this thread, to coincide with World Vegetarian Day and also to take the most likely advantage with weather/temperatures, then we'd be in great shape so far regarding scheduling conflicts around Austin. Anyone know of any other major events in Austin around that time? I don't recall any from when I did the Gathering of the Tribes.

Let's not forget about this project everyone. No doubt December is really busy for all of us, maybe we can start talking about an early January date for having our meeting?

My bad. I know I was trying to get us all together last weekend, but things have been hectic since I got back from Australia.

Do we want to tenatively plan for for Sun, Jan. 9th?

I just heard news of this VegFest and would love to participate/volunteer in some way.

I'll be out of town this weekend (so won't be able to attend the meeting this Sunday)...but I signed up on the google doc and will hopefully be able to make the other meeting times.

Would love to get an update of what was decided at the meeting so that I can see how I can help contribute.

happy
