i got blood taken today. you know, to check all of my levels and crap and check for food allergies.

i completely passed out in the chair when it was over. it was crazy. when i started coming to, they helped me to the floor. they laid me down and propped my feet up. i felt better pretty quickly, but DANG that was weird.

i've felt wiped since. wow. come on, body, make more blood.

anybody else pass out from blood work?

i passed out once from a minor cut.  i put my bleeding finger under the sink instead of putting pressure on it. with my finger under the sink it looked like a lot of blood was coming out, even though it really wasn't, but as my eyes watched the blood my brain freaked out and shut down because it thought it was saving me from experiencing pain (kinda cool).  good to know this will happen in case one day i'm really bleeding to death and don't feel like watching:-)  anyway, my guess is something similar happend to you.  did you watch the needle?  if so, and this made you slightly nervous, your brain could have went into reaction mode.

I used to pass out all of the time. One time a whole room of doctors/nurses got to see my underwear.....I'll never wear a skirt when getting blood drawn again.

After doing a medical study where they took my blood 11 times in one day I got used to it- now I can look while they do it...and maybe even wear a dress happy
It's all in your head.

I made sure not to look at it at all, but at one point I heard it. I HEARD IT. Oooouuuuuuuggggghhhhhhhffffff. So maybe that plus the anxiety plus the fasting, yeah. Couldn't handle it.

I've given blood for years, and I used to be fine (wouldn't eat the non-vegan cookie or drink the juice and could walk away just fine), though now I usually get a little weak, and have to sit down or have them tilt my chair back and need the juice and some kind of snack. The sight of blood doesn't bother me a bit,  it's the lowered blood sugar.

It's nothing abnormal, it's the reason they have things like juice, soda, Gatorade, cookies, fruit snacks, and granola bars there for you when you give blood. I think it's probably more common if you're a bit dehydrated, anemic or under the weather.

On a related note, one morning I woke up because I heard a weird sound and Jeremy was crawling out of the bathroom. He had cut a chunk out of his finger, and had an experience like Jen, but he hit his head when he passed out, and was only semi conscious.

I was a supervisor at the local blood center for several years.  I have seen people pass out from just the fingerstick.  I have also seen them fall out from the whole pint of blood being drawn.  Like Ripe Tomato said, it is normal and there is usually a reason why.  Some people have "white coat sydrome".  They see the white labcoat and start to feel very anxious. Others hate needles, some by the sight of blood. We saw more people pass out due to dehydration, to much caffeine that day, didn't eat a good meal before coming to donate.  Sorry it happened to you.  It can be a jarring experience.

Omg. Do you take a sublingual or go the fortified route?

I just rocked a cholesterol test despite my totally gluttonous eating habits.
