I see many cities are having vegan bakesales this weekend in aid for Haiti. Is anyone planning one for Austin? |

I'm down to pitch in if someone can lock down a venue. |

I am trying to get one together at Austin Community College. I thought college would be great since next week is the first week back and everyone has financial aid checks in their hands. What about a UT location? One of the bookstores? Does anyone have any contacts? |

I think college locations are great. Lots of foot traffic. It's too bad there's so much rain lately. |

Yeah, forms and probably some type of facility use fee.. It looks like they want the form 10 days prior to the event.. hmmm. I may be looking in the wrong place, though. |

SP- you are probably right about the fee and timing. Monday might be better, it is supposed to be 65 and sunny. Does anyone know the deal about setting up a booth on the drag where everyone sells hemp necklaces? |

I think either would be good - South Congress might be busier since it's going to be pretty and a holiday. |

OK! Do you think Monday is enough time to get the word out? |

I don't know...but I think it's worth a try!! If we can get dibs on a location tonight/tomorrow, i can get a flyer done and post a link to a pdf version that everyone can print out and spread around, so it won't just be on one person's shoulders to get the word out. |

Also, what organization should we donate the proceeds to? Some suggestions: Mercy Corps: http://www.mercycorps.org/ Food For Life: http://www.ffl.org/ffl_featured_story.php Doctors without Borders: http://doctorswithoutborders.org/ Any other suggestions? |

back when i was gonna host a vegan bakesale I tried to get a location there but you have to get a permit to sell there which takes atleast 30 days. On twitter i recommended (to fikustree) south congress would be a great location. I'm sure lots of stores would consider lending out their sidewalk. >SP- you are probably right about the fee and timing. > >Monday might be better, it is supposed to be 65 and sunny. and something to consider: The drag has traffic all day long. Congress has traffic at night breifly (for a few hours) If it'll be during the day, go with the drag. |

Good point. I was thinking that due to the holiday, soco may have more daytime traffic, but the drag is always busy. Also, perhaps we should think of trying for multiple bake sales throughout the month as the need for relief in Haiti will be ongoing.. |

The drag it is! It looks like Wheatsville might let us camp out there, I am going to say next Sunday 1-24 so we all have time to prepare and get the word out. I don't think we should rush it just to get in on the holiday, more organization will probably lead to a better event and I personally can't participate in many events right now because I have too much going on. And I like Food For Life because it is us buying vegan food to send vegan food. I love that. If anyone wants to contribute I am happy to organize just post here or message me on FB (I am Lazy SmurfY) twitter (@veganlazysmurf)ppk (fikustree) or email veganlazysmurf@gmail.com... that is some serious social media right there. |
