Hi there!

Anyone hear if Austin has signed up for the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale taking place June 20 - 28?

If not, I would like to put one together.  Who's down?

Somewhere with tons of foot traffic!
The drag?congress?

Also I'm sure crafters could sell their vegan wares.

Hey! I don't know any of y'all yet, but I really want to participate in the worldwide vegan bake sale.

What cause would/should/might the proceeds go to? Someone should sign up here: http://www.veganbakesale.org/veganbakesale/vbs-signup.html

Also, what day should it be on? between June 20 and June 28, 2009?

I already signed up for our organization. I think each baker signs up on their own.

I am in contact with someone from the city to get a *street vending permit*.

I requested a permit for us to set up on Guadalupe. I figured there's crazy foot traffic (students/tourists/etc) and *lots* of people that probably haven't had much vegan food.

We are getting the space so everyone can share and use it.

Pretty sure, each baker can have their own organization to donate to. Haven't decided our organizaton just yet.

The date we're aiming for is Sat the 20th.

we will be selling sweet & savory stuff, btw.

awesome!  that's so exciting!  one question -- any way we can do this on Saturday, 6/27?  Houston's Vegan Bake Sale has already been planned for 6/20.  when i was asking around about Austin having one, i found that several vegan's here in Austin have already made plans to go to Houston and signed up to help out at that event (including myself).  also, i know of several vegans in Houston that would come if we had it on a different day.  what do you think?

The thing is, June is a crazy month for us.

Not only are we moving on the 27th( into our dream house) I have several orders after the 26th that are going to take up all my time. Also, I'm sure Houston is far enough from Austin that we can have them on the same day. It's still early enough that people can change their mind once they realize Austin is having one.

Also,we can try to absorb vegan bakers from San Antonio (there are a few that would def. help) and nearby cities.
And between us, and the other vegan (professional and casual) bakers here there will be enough to have a good amount of participation here.

I think it's neat to have them on the same day. It's like the state of Texas is being taken over by veganism and if it's statewide I'm sure it will be all over the news and stuff.

Kristen, your flyer was awesome (for the mexican potluck). Can you do the one for this one?
We plan on donating lots of baked goods and savory goods for this effort but the closer it is to the 30th, the more impossible it is for us.

bummer.  since i've already committed myself to Houston's event, i wouldn't feel comfortable backing out on them now.  i wish you guys the best of luck with the Austin bake sale though! hopefully, we can do this again next year and i can help out here in Austin.

Almost forgot! Hopefully we can get some sponsorship so we can bring a crazy amount of vegan food. I'm waiting to hear back on that as well.

Should hear from the permit people shortly.

Does any one already have their organization in mind? Maybe we should all donate to the same one so it's a large joint effort? I have NO clue where to donate. You all have any awesome suggestions? I'd like to donate locally so we can see the result of our efforts. But really at this point I have no clue.

Oh and I'm almost certain we can ask local restaurants/establishments to donate a vegan item we can sell.
Any ideas?
Like kerbey lane's mocha tofu cheesecake? Well, if not I have that recipe.

anything else you all can think of? Items that would flip out meat eaters?

My meat eater friends that have had raw cheesecakes always flip out.  I think I could probably do this since it doesn't involve an oven, lol.  I'm just not sure about the crust...

How about Action for Animals or maybe a local environmentalist group? Save Our Springs is the only local environmentalist group I can think of off the top of my head

Jacob,
Isa just posted a raw strawberry cheescake on the ppk blog.
The crust is soaked cashews I think.
That recipe looks great, is fairly simple and all raw.
Hope that helps!
