This is probably old news but it is new news to me so I figured I would post it anyways. As much as I hate The Domain I went by yesterday to visit the Apple store and I noticed a new Whole Foods was being constructed there. It's kind of odd that it is only about 3 miles from The Gateway location, hopefully they keep that one open as well.

I live only 2 exits up from this new location so I am pretty excited about it, although it will mean more trips to The Domain...

I noticed it is not on Whole Foods list of ones under development but they had a "coming soon" sign up in the empty plot so it will probably make the list when the begin construction.

In houston there are like 3 whole foods all within a handful of mile radius, so this doesn't suprise me *too* much.

Parking at the Domain sucks. Plus it makes me feel poor to go to the Domain. Not that it doesn't MAKE me poor every time I visit a Whole Foods. Those two don't mix well for me. I'm still going to HEB Hancock.

Thats what I figured, thats a shame though angry I like getting my shopping at Sams and WF done in the same spot. Hopefully the store will be alot larger than the Gateway location, it gets really crowded in there.

she also said that the size would be about the same.  angry

maybe she was wrong, though... we'll see.

She was wrong about the size. It's going to be larger. That's the point of moving it.

It'll only be slightly smaller than the one downtown.

It may in fact be larger, I don't know, but I think they're also moving it to be part of a mixed-use facility.

why would you shop at Whole Foods when Wheatsville is right up the road?  small, community-run, all organic produce, great bulk section, reasonably priced - one of the things I miss most about Austin, really.

Craig, you're thinking of the Triangle.  The Domain is up North on Mopac past 183.

oooooh.  ha ha.  you're totally right, Gabe.  North Austin was always alien territory to me anyhow.

Please ignore following post if you don't feel like reading the thoughts of a preachy bore (me):

Do you know that Sam's/Wal-mart is a huge contributor to the republican party? Did you know that Wal-mart has essentially forced it's suppliers to move their manufacturing from America to China so they can get the "lowest prices"? Did you know that the women who work at wal-mart have been proven to be promoted less, and paid less? Did you know that wal-mart tries to ensure that they can keep employees under 40 hrs so they do not have to provide benefits, and then counsels the employee on ways to get benefits paid from the government? Did you know that Wal-mart is vehemently opposed to unions -and has been found guilty of not paying overtime to employees who earned it?

For these reasons, I sincerely think of Wal-mart as un-American, and I won't shop there.
There is a Costco about a block further north from that Sam's - they support the Democrats, they support unions, and they do not force industry out of America for cheap labor.
Rant over.

Democrats seem to be no better than the Republicans.

Craig:  Also, there's the new Natural Grocers opening up soon that will be between the triangle and wheatsville ;-)

a cashier at the gateway store told me today the new whole foods won't be done until 2013!  the domain has to build the building for them and since the domain isn't doing so hot, it's delayed.

i also picked up a frozen vegan pizza from kashi there today.  it looks pretty good.  has anyone tried yet?

eh, don't get too excited about that pizza Jen.  I have it before and they really don't taste like much.  I ended up killing it with mustard and black pepper.
